Florida church plans to burn Qurans
From the Editors
In a deplorable display of religious intolerance, an evangelical church in Florida plans an organized burning of Korans on September 11. Despite already receiving 100 death threats, the pastor of the church, the Reverend Terry Jones, hopes that the destruction of a book found sacred by well over a billion individuals will not lead to violence. It seems Rev. Jones' is as ignorant as the name of his church is misleading: "Dove World Outreach Center."

"The plan by the Dove World Outreach Center, a small evangelical church in the US state of Florida, to burn Korans on 11 September has drawn worldwide condemnation.
Its pastor, the Reverend Terry Jones, says that as an American Christian he has a right to burn Islam's holy book because it is "full of lies".
Despite acknowledging that he has "no experience... whatsoever" of the Koran, he argues that it is "evil" because it espouses something other than Biblical truth and incites radical, violent behaviour among Muslims.
The 58-year-old recently wrote a book entitled Islam is of the Devil.
Muslims consider the Koran the sacred word of God and consider any intentional damage or show of disrespect towards it as deeply offensive .
There are fears that the planned burning will spark international protests by Muslims on a scale similar to those seen after the publication of satirical cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper in 2006.
Already, protesters in Afghanistan have burned an effigy of Mr Jones to chants of "death to America".
"Even the rumour that it might take place has sparked demonstrations such as the one that took place in Kabul," warned the top US and Nato military commander in the country, Gen David Petraeus, earlier this week.
"Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy, and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult," he added.
Mr Jones says he sincerely hopes burning Korans will not lead to violence, and dismisses the idea that it may put American troops at greater risk.
"We must send a clear message to the radical element of Islam. We will no longer be controlled and dominated by their fears and threats," he says.
Mr Jones has received more than 100 death threats in recent days and says he has started carrying a pistol as a precaution."
I do not agree with what Reverend Jones and his church is doing. I DO have issue with all of the people who are suposed to be running our contry giving their opinions. Where was Obama, Clinton, David Axelrod, and the rest of the Obama team at with thier opinons when the Westboro Baptist Church was protesting funerals of our fallen servicemen and women. David Axelrod quoted as saying not consistant with our values. Team Obama if you want to speak up and voice your opinons I suggest you start with giving your opinion on the Westboro and maybe I'll give a flip about your opinion in the future. Semper Fi and many thanks to those who are serving and have served.

He should go ahead with his plan. 9-11 has to have some pay back. If it offends someone tough.

Is this still a Libertarian leaning paper? Then why aren't you defending free speech? While you are at it, please explain how this will endanger our troops? We are already at war with Islamic extremists. Isn't that as dangerous as you can get?

Certainly, as Muslims are already demonstrating in their countries the planned burning of their Qur'an, it can be argued that they have no problem buring our flag and probably the Bible. However, Reverend Terry Jones wants the world to believe that God Himself told him to do this. Does Reverend Jones really expect us to believe that God wants to incite violence by burning the Qur'an that gives license to act violently against what the Qur'an describes as infidels? I think not. Jesus of Nazareth tuaght his followers to pray for your enemies and to do good to those who abuse you.
