R.C. Hoiles and his Freedom Philosophy
The man, the philosophy, and his legacy
R.C. Hoiles in 1935 founded the newspaper company that became Irvine-based Freedom Communications Inc., now the nation's 12th largest media company and still controlled by Hoiles family members. The strong-minded publisher studied philosophy and developed a view of the world that emphasizes respect for the individual, limited government, free markets, free trade, voluntaryism and property rights. It is a view -- beholden to no political party -- that continues today through the editorial voice of Freedom Communications.
